Starting a conversation is sometimes a difficult thing to do. We recommend trying out a few lines and evaluate how attendees react to them. Here are some conversation starters to try at your next trade show.
1. Take an indirect approach
“Excuse me, could I ask your opinion on something?”
This is a great way to get people to start talking with you as it is an unexpected question. Once you get their attention, your follow up question should frame around your product or services.
2. Ask them if they like it
“How has the show been so far for you?”
Most people find it difficult to walk away from a question directed at them. Hold off a bit on getting into your sales pitch and spend some time building a real conversation to get them to show interest in hearing about your products.
3. Show them
“Let me show you something exciting.”
Letting people interact with your product is a big draw. It allows them to make their own judgment based on the experience.
4. Offer them something
“Did you get your free koozie?”
People love the word “free” and by offering a giveaway, you draw them into your booth. From there, you can start asking them other ice-breaker type questions and then lead into product information.
5. Compliment them
“I love your shirt!”
A compliment goes a long way in all aspects of life. By noticing the details of someone’s attire, it breaks down the conversation starter wall and you might even get a smile out of it.
