In light of the issues that have been reported at this year’s annual Comic Con event in San Diego, this is a great time for our Houston trade show blog to talk about trade show safety. Of course, Comic Con may attract a more eclectic crowd of attendees than many other industry trade shows – but regardless, safety can become a concern in a wide variety of conference environments. Here are some things to beware of at your next industry trade show.
Suspicious people. As in, people who look like they are not necessarily there for a trade show. If someone looks out of place, that may not be cause for reporting him just yet – but it could be cause for keeping an eye on him. If he behaves oddly or you see him trying to enter a prohibited area, then it may be a good idea for you to silently tip off security.
Illicit substances. You can’t control what other people will do at a trade show, but you can control what you do and who you choose to associate yourself with while you’re there. If there is a particular area of the hotel that is known as a hotbed for those who have more than networking on their minds, staying out of that area is probably a good personal safety decision.
Media attention. The wrong kind of media attention is something you probably want to avoid. If there is a TV camera crew and it appears they are only out to make your industry look bad, why put yourself at the risk of being humiliated? The same goes for any attendees who are following people around with a phone in the air; they are filming them for a reason, and often it’s connected to an agenda. Beware of anyone who is out to “expose” or embarrass you.
It seems like there’s always a new security concern arising, and that’s why trade show safety is more important than ever before. Our Houston trade show experts want you to have an enjoyable, safe experience; follow these tips to improve your chances!
